November 23, 2008 (9:00 am - 1:00 pm)
We are going to have to postpone this workday, for at least a little while. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we will be able to have it after deer season. Watch for updates on the trail forum.

NMBA/LHORBA/RCST Group Ride Recap
NMBA/LHORBA/RCST Group Ride Recap
Written by Mike Sharer

If you missed the ride or want to see some pictures, this is what I had to say about our first multi-club group ride.

May 11th marked the first of a series of multi-club group rides, with NMBA hosting at Greenwood Furnace State Park. Participating clubs include LHORBA, PORC, and even RCST. We had a great turn out for the event, with 25 riders and 2 nonriders (Beth Sharer and Randy Rusnak) who benevolently stayed behind to tend to the food (Thank you!). Much to our delight, donations made by Jim Glover and Weis Markets provided us food and drink. Furthermore, The Bicycle Shop provided some great items for us to raffle. NMBA is very thankful for everyone's generosity!

While no one opted for a casual ride, we split almost evenly into intermediate (led by Mike Sharer) and advanced (led by Frank Maguire) groups. The intermediate group stayed somewhat from their intended route to take in the downhill wonders of the Russ Gap Trail. While everyone survived our detour, my downhill flight took a dive as I crashed and tore a hole in the upper thigh of my cycling shorts, thus giving my group an interesting view of my backside. On a different note, since Frank showed up, he agreed to led the advanced group on an expedition of sorts, scrapping our proposed route. In the end, the riders were both pleased and winded with their eventual 30 mile trek. Even Kevin Bergman witnessed some new trails!

All told, it was a perfect day for a great ride. From the smiles and bruises assessed after the ride, I'd venture to guess that everyone enjoyed their ride. If we can continue to pull off great events like this one, we've all got a great summer in store for us!
