Attached please find an advisory CLOSING Corner Road/Camp Trail to ALL user groups. You ARE NOT permitted to use Corner Road/Camp Trail unless you receive permission from the private landowners. Using the property will be considered TRESPASSING. According to DCNR, the private landowners, at this point in time, are concerned that the amount of recreational users going through their property is impacting their ability to use their land as they see fit, which is certainly their right. That being said, DCNR cannot promote recreational use originating from state forest land that impacts private lands. Therefore, they will be posting signs before the weekend at the Bear Meadows/Corner Road intersection as well as the Camp Trail/Tussey Mountain Trail intersection, along with a brief narrative in the kiosk at the Galbraith Gap trailhead explaining the situation. DCNR did advise that the private landowner's mentioned NMBA's role and efforts in trying to bring the situation into compliance, but it is a situation that goes well beyond the context of NMBA members alone, as there are many other cyclists and user groups who utilize this road/trail. I have e-mailed the District Forester about exploring options to construct a (new) trail that will allow us to create a loop, similar to what Corner Road/Camp Trail has allowed us to do, and he is very open to the idea. It is my hope that we will be able to start developing a possible route in the near future. Thank you in advance for respecting the rights of the private landowners.
TRAIL ADVISORY
Corner Road is a
State
Forest administrative road. It is open to all public use (hiking/biking/licensed and inspected motorized vehicles). However, Corner Roadcontinues off
State
Forest and onto private land. This point is marked by both
State
Forest boundary signs and “Posted” signs on the private land. Please observe this transition and respect the rights of the private landowners by not riding/hiking/driving onto their land. This is private land, and you need the permission of the landowners to use it.
Camp Trail likewise starts on
State
Forest land and travels onto private ground. For the same reason as listed above, please do not use Camp Trail beyond the
State
Forest boundary.
Advisories to this effect are posted at the intersection of Bear Meadows and Corner Road and at the intersection of Camp Trail and Tussey Mountain Trail. The connection between Corner Road and Camp Trail is closed.
Please contact the
Rothrock
State
Forest at 814-643-2340 with any questions or comments. Thank you.
