kevinb Trail work day - storm clean up - 2009/10/19 08:48 Id like to propose a Sunday morning trail work day to start clearing trails of the mess that just happened during the snow storm.
I would like to meet at the tussey forestry lot at 10am and split up into groups from there. Chainsaws are definitely useful but everybody is needed, bring hand saws, loppers etc.
Post up on Franks post about needs, especially places where chain saws are either definitely needed or definitely not needed and if you have cleared a section.
My thought about doing this Sunday vs Saturday is it is still hunting season and using chainsaws while people are hunting isn't particularly neighborly.

nabilkamal Re:Trail work day - storm clean up - 2009/10/19 09:05 Yes, good idea Kevin. I'd propose trying to get Tussey Ridge and Lonberger open first since they are our "signature" trails.

I cleared some stuff yesterday. A lot of it can actually be just pulled off the trails with manpower. The snow will be gone soon which will make it easier.

Unfortunately I can't make it Sunday. I have a certification course in Richmond, Va.

kevinb Re:Trail work day - storm clean up - 2009/10/19 11:14 those will definitely be a priority, although sounds like they already have and will continue to get some work done on them this week. A preliminary report has the coopers stuff looking a lot better than tussey, i plan to ride out there saturday and do some more recon.

frank Re:Trail work day - storm clean up - 2009/10/19 20:02 I can probably make sunday. I am going to try and get out for a couple of hours tomorrow and then again Friday AM.
I am thinking about hitting accuweather around 2pm tomorrow until 4. It sounds like Harry has cleared a bunch, but it needs saw work. If anyone wants to help, drop on by.

frank Re:Trail work day - storm clean up - 2009/10/20 08:13 Lets set 9am on Sunday at the forestry lot. From the sound of things I am guessing The ridge and Cooper's Gap are being taken care of, so most likely we will be heading into shingletown and other outliers.
I will be there with the club saw.

Yoda Re:Trail work day - storm clean up - 2009/10/20 12:02 You can count me in...I'm gonna try to ride shingletown either today or tomorrow...I'll do what I can with a packsaw and get a bead on where the noisy saws will be needed

DonnaM Re:Trail work day - storm clean up - 2009/10/21 08:29 Thank you so much for the quick effort you've all put into clearing these trails! In such a short period of time, so many of them are able to be ridden and hiked. Certainly a true testimonial to what this means to the bikers who use them. Seperate from biking, as a hiker, I can't tell you how convenient you've made it. I only hope that other hikers, etc. appreciate it as well. I know there are those few who protest to bikers using the trails; however, I hope something of this magnitude brings a respect and recognition to the people who bike them and the significance you all make to keeping them beautiful and accessible THANK YOU! kevinb Re:Trail work day - storm clean up - 2009/10/21 09:47 in a follow up to Donna, if everybody who is working to clear trails could use the trailwork log on the website here to record what and how much time was spent, it would really help out when we talk with forestry about what we do and future projects etc. Its really pretty darn easy to use
Thanks
