herrhaus Re:W101 pre-race work - 2009/07/26 14:43 Tom and I looked at that tree in lower Sass (suspended above the trail about 4'), and we decided we couldn't get it with bow saw I had. And, for some reason I was under the impression that Allen was going to get it with a chain saw.....I apologize. If I had realized that he wasn't going to get it, I would have put forth a bigger effort with it. Someone beat us to the double down at the top of lower Sass.

We did remove other downfalls (probably about 6 total) along the way (lower Sass, upper sass, Lewistown Contingent (what a great trail!!) and one on Top Trail.

The bridge at the bottom of Kickapoo looks very rough. BTW, that is one hairy trail!

The bridge on Stillhouse at the switchback (on the way down backside) is downright scary!! It's missing like the first three boards and it's a big drop if you fall. I had to ride the center beam with my fingers crossed. Will DCNR allow someone access through the gate to get a vehicle back there?? If not....boy, that will be a bugger getting lumber back to it. Probably easier to come from the Stillhouse Lodge side (backstation).

Got lost on the backside of Sand Mountain. Where the Lingle Faust trails takes a right on the map.....not sure that is possible. There’s a Deer Pen in that area, and I don't think the mapping was correct. (Sorry, that's not trail maintenance I guess....just an observation).

Fisherman’s path is a lost cause for making it "rideable". I don't think it was ever intended as a bike path.

So with exception of the tree on Lower Sass and the bridge on Stillhouse, I think the last 46 miles looked good to me. You could see where there was lot's of work done. Thank you much.
Chuck Norris once broke the land speed record on a bicycle that was missing its chain and the back tire.
