jmblg Re:W101 pre-race work DETWEILER - 2009/07/17 13:36 aside from the pre-historic large downfall, there are 2-3 smaller ones not far from the gate.

herrhaus Re:W101 pre-race work - 2009/07/20 16:52 As indicated above....

If the race will revert to the 2006 route this year due to the completion of the gas line......that means that Detweiler will be used. There is a huge tree that looks like it just fell right at the gate (Bear Meadows Road).

There is also a smaller tree (maybe 9" diameter) about 1/3 of a mile up from Bear Meadows that is suspended about 6" above the trail. I tried to move that one yesterday....with no luck. I forgot my can of spinach.

There were others that looked like they were cut and moved between the two that I mentioned above.

Allen Re:W101 pre-race work - 2009/07/24 05:46 Heard that Croyle needs to be brush cut and is anyone planning on getting this?

I’ll be mowing the field and getting the really grown in part of lower Sassafras.
So here are the trees I know of and has anyone got any of them yet, Middle of Upper Sassafrass, Lewistown Contingent, Telephone and Detweiler.

Getting the coarse ready and helping with the 101 gets NMBA some good PR and some money to buy tools and supplies. So if you are riding this week or feel like hiking and see some trails that could use a little work please help. As most of you are aware these trails don’t take care of there self and some people spend many hours trying to keep them ride able. The comment I hear the most is I don’t have the time. Well everyone would rather be out riding their bike then doing trail work. The trails are super grown in this year and are in need of some trimming.

herrhaus Re:W101 pre-race work - 2009/07/24 09:08 Well, I'm planning to ride the last 45 miles of 101 on Saturday (from top of Seeger to Coburn). I could pack a bowsaw I suppose. I have never even ridden any of these trails and am hoping that I don't get lost tomorrow. I could move the trees that I encouter along the way....I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do with the brush......Would that be a help?? Are there chainsaw size trees (I wouldn't be able to get those)....

Here's my question, I've noticed that there is a diference between the 2006 map and 2008 map where I'd start. It looks like a trail called "Wallace" was used in the 2008 race (taking you to the west a bit). However, it wasn't used in the 2006 race. So.....which trail should I ride tomorrow?? Frank do you know yet??

My email is listed under the "alternate phone" under my profile. Just click on my profile and it should come up. Feel free to email me.

EndosRFun Re:W101 pre-race work - 2009/07/24 11:45 We rode Lewistown Contignent last Sunday, I don't remember coming across any deadfall. The field on lower sass was brutal with the overgrown thistle. My knuckles took a beating. I would be happy to spend a few hours doing some trail work tommorow, Saturday, if there is any going on. I don't have a brush cutter or chain saw but if there are tools available to use/borrow let me know (Yes I know how to use them).

Raymo853 Re:W101 pre-race work - 2009/07/24 14:24 I tried to attach the draft map of the 2009 course, but could not. The 09 course is pretty much the same as the 07 and 06 course.

If you email me I can email it to you.

Allen Re:W101 pre-race work - 2009/07/24 16:09 I will be clearing lower Sassafras around nine. I could use a raker and I have a brush cutter and a rake. Not sure where the field you are talking about is on Sassarfass unless you are talking about sassex and then it is clear. Let me know.

herrhaus Re:W101 pre-race work - 2009/07/24 16:16 Not sure what time we will make it to Sassafrass (or really where you're going to be). I have a long day ahead of me tomorrow. Chuck Norris once broke the land speed record on a bicycle that was missing its chain and the back tire.

EndosRFun Re:W101 pre-race work - 2009/07/24 16:32 I can be there at nine. My bad on the lower sass field comment, I meant sassex. I guess I'm still a bit loopy from the endo I encountered at the end of the field when I took my hand off my handle bars and hit the small dip before the transition to the woods to avoid the thistle.

You going in from the top of lower sass or the bottom (by Spencer). I have some hand tools I can bring(shovel, steel rake, rock bar, pick axe) if we need them.
