frank How to report fallen trees/chainsaw work - 2008/10/04 13:44 To better help tree removal from the trails, it would be helpful if people can be as specific as possible as to location. When you note a tree down, please think about what would be the easiest way to access the trail. Also, if you can, take a picture and post it here. Sometimes the trees don't require a chainsaw, or can be built as an optional line.

princess Re:How to report fallen trees/chainsaw work - 2008/10/06 13:46 i'd say toss out a template type of format such as:

trail: what trail it is on.

access: where to come in from when carrying chainsaw.

landmarks: nearby things that can help in locating it such as intersections or trail features.

size: pack saw/bow saw or the chainsaw. 20" bar for the big ones?

type: crown or trunk as that makes a difference sometimes.

height: head high, waist high, on the ground? like frank said, they can be incorporated into the trail sometimes

Allen Re:How to report fallen trees/chainsaw work - 2008/10/06 16:33 That’s a very good idea on the template Don. I got one for you on Indian right before it turns on to Shitaulka. Its brown has two horns (not legal) and might have been gut shot. One person should be able to move it no saws needed. Thanks for the help. You better get it before the mountain lion does.

frank Re:How to report fallen trees/chainsaw work - 2008/10/06 18:35 Sadly, I am going to have to admit that Don's system is much better than mine. Does anyone know if there is a way to do a form on here?
And actually, this was all prompted not by any of the recent posts here, but more of the phone call I got on Friday to go remove a tree for the Penn State race. It was on Laurel Run, somewhere.

DarthMyers Re:How to report fallen trees/chainsaw work - 2008/10/07 11:56 this would be less of an issue if one remembers to carry their Lightsaber

RothRocks Re:How to report fallen trees/chainsaw work - 2008/10/07 12:07 There are modules that you can use with Joomla to create form templates. I don't think they are used to post to forums, I think they simply email the contents to the administrators. With some PHP scripting it can be done but I don't think there is an easy way to do it.

princess Re:How to report fallen trees/chainsaw work - 2008/10/07 20:55 ken's way ahead of me on that. never did care for any applications that didn't require the latest directx version and graphics drivers.

i'll bow to his wisdom on it and suggest maybe we just put a sticky thread up each month or so with that format laid out in the first post.

but if someone else can think of something better, just say so. i can handle being wrong.

Death Re:How to report fallen trees/chainsaw work - 2008/10/13 21:58 I think a locked, sticky thread is just the ticket (no need to post a new thread every month). Someone just needs to come up with the text, and I can help make it happen. Actually, Frank basically did that until Don decided to make it better. Then we got this conversation.

erik Re:Fallen tree: Lower Sassafrass - 2009/06/18 14:30 Will clearing the Camp trail climb up to the ridge cause any problems with anyone?

I was planning on doing that Saturday.

Pooh Re:Fallen tree: Lower Sassafrass - 2009/06/18 14:59 I think cutting those two bottom trees out would be a good idea. I would help but I am out of town

Jeff Re:Fallen tree: Lower Sassafrass - 2009/06/18 15:11 There are plenty of rocks around to do something with the bottom log just out of sight of the chain. The one laying along the trail up from that requires dismounting if you're riding towards the gasline, and there aren't many rocks around to bridge it. Cutting a gap in this one at the downhill end would allow you to ride up, while allowing those coming down to ride the log. There is also a big one about knee high once the trail starts getting steep. If you're out in the morning I can probably help. I've probably put too much thought into this...

frank Re:Fallen tree: Lower Sassafrass - 2009/06/18 16:10 You should cut out the trees on Camp, and cut them back pretty far. They haven't done it in a couple of years, but the folks from the camp have driven up the trail before to cut firewood. If we built up ramps, that might piss them off enough to start causing issues.
