Codehead Endurance Training Camp - 2009/06/12 11:47 Has anyone noticed this on the stoopid page
( http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=8378 ) Cadence is holding a 3 day camp on endurance racing in prep for the 101 is anyone here considering this or have they done it in the past. I think it looks interesting but the time commitment seems large and Im not really interested in camping out 30 min from my bed. But the talks about nutrition and strategy are really tempting.

frank Re:Endurance Training Camp - 2009/06/12 12:01 If you emailed Mike Kuhn, I am guessing you could do a drop in for the talks. his email should be linked. And although Coburn is their meeting spot, I think they are planning on staying at Hotels in State College, so I am guessing the talks are local, but I don't know for sure.

jmblg Re:Endurance Training Camp - 2009/06/13 08:16 Day 1 will start from Coburn and we'll tackle the roads that make up the start of the race and the last miles of the course. For those of you familiar with the 101, we'll cover a good bit of the course that lies to the east of Rt 322 on day 1 and about 35-40 miles total. We'll ride from Coburn at 1PM on Monday. If you're doing the Stoopid or other long ride on Sunday make sure to rest up and recover for the camp as much as you are able. We'll be covering a lot of ground over the three days and you'll likely total up a good bit more than 100 miles of mountain biking over the three days. Make sure you're bringing enough food and fluid on the rides; fueling yourself well (eating a lot!) when you're off the bike; and staying off your feet as much as possible.

Day 2 and 3 will start from other locations in the State Forest. I am planning that on Day 2 we will start from Rt 322 and cover approximately 40-45 miles which will include the next 12 miles or so from 322 and then cut across to pick up the course at approximately mile marker 46 and finish up at about the 73 mile mark. We'll get rolling at 10AM and I figure we'll be out most of the day.

On Day 3 we'll be on the trail at 9:30AM and cover the last bit of trail picking it up from the Rothrock parking lot behind Tussey mountain and covering about 30 miles.

Since we're a small group we'll play some of the non-riding bits by ear. I will be staying at the Ramada in State College and we'll reconvene there in the evenings to chat about whatever it is that you might want to chat about regarding the race or training for mountain bike racing. Basically, I'm all yours for the three days.

Make sure you have tubes and your bike is ready to roll. We're coming up with a plan to have some support out on the trail, but you should plan to be self sufficient in terms of repairs, food, and fluids.

Please drop a note back or give a call with any questions. You can reach me at 717-350-1029.

Thanks and see you on Monday or maybe the Stoopid on Sunday!

Looking forward to riding with you!

Mike

PS If you know anyone who may be interested we're still happy to have some more folks sign up. If you know someone who doesn't want the entry fee but wants to come to camp we can work that out too.

I wish I would have logged in on Monday or Sunday night. I probably would have re-arranged my schedule a bit for this given the last statement by Mike.

If others are planning any type of W101 training rides, I'd like to join you when I can. Just let me know.

Demon of the Fall Re:Endurance Training Camp - 2009/06/17 13:14 I'd like to ride the Stoopid 50 course again before the W101. It won't be for a few weeks though because I am still recovering from it. I'd like to include Longberger instead of Bear Meadows Rd. and drop Wildcat Gap instead of Bear Gap road to make it even more fun! That would be the plan anyway. At the end I might be happy just to ride down Bear Gap Rd.

jmblg Re:Endurance Training Camp - 2009/06/17 20:54 just completed the camp. Was really nice, good company, and gave me a different perspective of our trails/roads riding with others who have never seen them. only 5 total but due to late authorization, they were unable to advertise earlier. this will probably pick up monentum through the years. Kuhn said the first year of the spring State College road camp (2 years ago) there were 5, this year they had 25.

i had signed up with stu, then during the stoopid i decided since i felt good, i was going to take it easy and not do the camp. Kuhn called me up at 10.30 that morning, talked me into it, and thanks to Grant i was able to have my bike ready by noon (i needed a new pedal, busted 1/2 the xtr on tussey, a new caliper, and some major adjustments on the rear derailleur). Rode 40 Monday, first 12 ish, last 25 ish, 40 Tuesday, 322 crowfield to stillhouse less the bear meadows road climb and croyle), today longberger, whipple, greenlee, less croyle, very chilly and wet and some were getting cold. came back nbm road.
