DonnaM Re:Deadfall on Carcass and Lonberger - 2009/06/09 14:49 The tree on Carcass was moved... I supposed it was rotted enough to just push over the embankment... Donna

frank Re:Deadfall on Carcass and Lonberger - 2009/06/09 22:17 Hey Donna, is the one on Lonberger the one that has benn built up somewhat, but is still not super clean (ie, pretty steep and the ramps are all rotten)? Or is there another one?

DonnaM Re:Deadfall on Carcass and Lonberger - 2009/06/09 22:51 It's the one that is being built up...not too sturdy, and yes, the little logs look rotten. I've had some disagreement w/ others on whether or not it should remain for bikers. My concern is that the lower part of Lonberger is generic to hikers/trail runners/bikers, and visitors to Rothrock. I'm thinking it could be an obstacle to most who frequent the trail. I see it getting taken down by those who may not want it there? Just my opinion. Donna

frank Re:Deadfall on Carcass and Lonberger - 2009/06/10 10:50 In general, Lower Lonberger should remain clear. There are some log rides that have developed off to one side, and I think thats fine, but yeah, the log you are talking about is on my hit list.
As for anyone who argues that we are sanitizing the trails, Lonberger is one of the few heavily used by many different user group trails and is as close to a beginner mountain bike trail on this side of Rothrock we have. If there are alternate lines, thats one thing, but having a questionably built and stable log ride does not reflect well on the rest of the trails. If someone was to report it to Forestry it could be the excuse to go looking at other places (ie upper lonberger).

princess Re:Deadfall on Carcass and Lonberger - 2009/06/10 21:01 what? where??? no, sir. nothing to see here.

i'll agree with frank. i've left nothing on the actual trail of lower lonberger. it is and should be the easiest point of admission in rothrock. i've seen a LOT of potential after they logged, but haven't developed any of it, and i don't expect anyone else to do so either. play elsewhere, there's a great number of opportunities in areas with less potential for conflict.
