herrhaus New guy here.....check is in the mail.... - 2009/06/07 15:40 Hey there. Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Otto and I live in Bellefonte with my wife and 3 kids. Pontzer and I used to work together for the same engineering firm. Now he's moved on to the big leagues and I'm still trudging through the weeds. Pontzer told me to join this here fancy MTB club....so I put a check in the mail. I hear you guys have great T-shirts that may help me if I become lost in Rothrock.....

Anyway, beginning last summer, I started to get into biking more seriously. In fact, I actually participated in the "12-Hours of Roundtop" event up in Athens PA (north country). Anyway, I'll be riding again up there this year and have found myself training in anticipation of entering the Wilderness 101.

I understand that you all do some riding outings. While not in absolute fantastic shape, I do pretty good on the trail. I’m certainly not a novice…however, I am not an expert either. I'm thinking I may be able to take time to ride in one of your weekly outings....however I'm not really sure which event would be the most appropriate for me. Currently, (due to my time constraints being a dad to three kids 6 and under) I only urban ride 3 nights a week at about 13 miles per clip (about an hour) in Bellefonte. On the weekends (Saturday) I've been taking longer trips that have been getting increasingly longer (i.e. 3 hours).

I also just purchased a Marin Alpine Trail 29er (entry level). My current bike is a 13 year old entry level department store (Dicks) bike (Nishiki Manitoba). It's literally falling apart with all my "training". So it was about time to retire it. Anyways, the bike will be delivered on Wednesday. Can't wait.

Sorry about the ramblings....just thought I'd say hello. If someone could get back to me on which ride is best....I'd appreciate it. By the way....I can't do Wednesday nights due to other commitments (church).

Thanks
Otto

Chuck Norris once broke the land speed record on a bicycle that was missing its chain and the back tire.

hodog Re:New guy here.....check is in the mail.... - 2009/06/08 10:59 Hey Otto,

I suggest trying one of the Thursday intro rides either Tussey or Pine Hall. That way you'll get to meet people on a more casual ride setting.

You can also gauge your fitness and technical skill level. That way you can get a better feel for rides will be right for you.

herrhaus Re:New guy here.....check is in the mail.... - 2009/06/08 11:08 From the description, it kind of sounded like the the one leaving Tussey area was a bit more technical and strenous over the Pine Hall. Is that accurate? Chuck Norris once broke the land speed record on a bicycle that was missing its chain and the back tire.
