kevinb Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/21 15:47 i dont like the idea of finishing up down chesnut, unless, which would not be an issue, take the connector back to brush ridge and finish down that. I think taking chestnut all the way down to the camp through the muck and the drainage would be a mistake. The way raymo has it routed there really wouldnt be any overlap and no need to go change signage during the race. it could be an issue that far into it to have to turn things around.

Raymo853 Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/21 16:45 How about climbing up Croyle and then just go down N Bear Meadows and end by then climbing back up Tuxedo and coming down Kettle to finish there.

jmblg Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/21 21:36 sounds good. saves a few endo's on old laurel after 50 miles. or just finish at the end of north bear meadows, i'm sure after climbing croyle, finishing down nbm road would be sweet. parking lot near by.

Raymo853 Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/22 09:47 Based on folks input here, Frank's and Mummbles there will be a couple of changes. I need to do some distance calculations but hope to give you a full course and map soon. Changes will include never hitting Old Laurel, but starting by climbing to 3B and then going up Long, then up N Bear Meadows (your welcomed HO) down Gettis, over to Coopers around there but really trying to eliminate cross over and go down Shittakka the normal way. Then on the way back maybe put in Detweiler/Wert if the distances make it possible. The coming home section will most likely be coming up the Extension and coming out the Ridge and Tuxedo.

kevinb Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/22 10:06 i hate to swell either one of their heads anymore than they already are, but i agree that sort of thing would be the best, get over to coopers, do a loop, then get back. going up the extension will certainly qualify as the stoopid part of the race. at least the ridge will be a nice payoff for all their work getting up there.
I would throw in that going down croyle might be nicer than gettis, but they will have plenty of single track regardless

Raymo853 Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/22 10:09 Question: If we go down Bear Gap, can we then turn right onto Lingle Valley? I cannot remember. My memory there is a stream crossing but then totally space on what comes afterward. The idea is then to take it to the road and then climb up Indian and then the little bit of Brush Ridge towards Spruce Mnt Road.

Then after that go through Penn Roo toward the Extension climb. And if it is looking short then throw in Detweiler/Wert or Long/Detweiler

hodog Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/22 12:20 Multiple stream crossings then a hard left at Owl Gap? to the deer fence and avoid the camps.

The extension that late is horrid. I'd rather see it earlier and the correct direction. The stoopid is a fun race why ruin it with crap trails?

Thickhead down sucks too, the loose and rutted top is treacherous and NOT fun. So I would vote Detweiler and Wert instead.

kevinb Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/22 12:56 getting back to actually answering your question, raymo, yes, you would take a right at the bottom of bear gap and continue down lingle valley. At the end of lingle valley you can either take a camp road to conklin or climb up Owl gap trail about 100 yards and follow a fence row right to the base of Indian

Oh HO please! Since you got a 29er dual squishy you know you can spin up the Extension after 26 miles with no trouble at all.

Raymo853 Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/22 21:12 OK. So the final course map is done. a very differnt course than discussed before. email me for a copy.

start at tussey, up to 3B, full longberger, tuxedo, ridge, extension, JOHN M-F'ing WERT, bear meadows & stone creek road the whole way to shale pit, wertz trail, climb brush ridge (NOT CHESTNUT) to chestunt spring spur and chestnut, down to the road, shittakka, chicken peter, down bear gap, right onto Lingle, up Indian, little section on Brush, over to Stone Creek Road, over to Penn Roos, down Detweiler, up Gettis Ridge Road, down Bear Meadows and finish there. About 49 miles.

jmblg Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/22 23:12 that's a pretty damn good course, it's must since it may be one and done.

DarthMyers Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/23 18:58 150+ starting with 3b's is going to create a train effect.

i'd rather end with the ridgetop for more reasons than one. 4 miles of fire road at the end - blah.

Yoda Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shit - 2009/05/23 21:57 Are there really any perfect scenarios if the race is launched out of Tussey?...I think that much road leading into 3b's will open things up quite a bit...just have to work hard to get up front early
