Basically, can the Stoopid go on the Ridge trail, the Extension, what about John Wert, Detweiler, how about long Mountain?
How is Wildcat looking? What about Old Laurel?
How about even upper and lower Longberger?
The Stoopid course may be similar to the 2005 SSWC course with extra things, like going East to West John Wert, then West to East up Detweiler and then East to West on Long Mountain. That way we will have a stoopid walk up that will make going up Sassa look easy.

Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shittak - 2009/05/20 14:09have not been on long mountain or detwiler but i hear det is ok. the crossing at the top of tussey is fine as well as across at the extension, it should probably follow the new "trail" though rather than going down the gas line. John Wert shouldn't be a problem either. I know SSWC did wildcat but I would personally lobby against that as those steep slopes really are starting to get messed up and that kind of traffic could really deteriorate them imo. Old laurel is in decent shape. upper lonberger had a big mess of a deadfall but no big deal. lower lonberger has been wet, but should be ok, actually the top part that has been really wet the past few years hasn't been too bad.

Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shittak - 2009/05/20 14:38Wert needs some love. There are 2 places where hidden rhodendron branches try to impale you. One log midway. This trail should be in the W101!
I don't remember anything down on upper lonberger, but the water bars need unclogged on lower.
Glover reported a big fall on Detweiler, close the road.
I'm with Kev, Wildcat is not built for racing. I'd like to see North Bear Meadows tho.
If mumbles is serious, I might be tempted to ride Long mtn sometime.
Yippee!!!

how about adding bald knob, skipping john wert (the lady may get upset at the gas line), getting up there on the new route, coming down maguire, then right to the old site with the fireplace, accross the stream, up to charcoal, then up to old laurel. could even head back up long to tux and return since all should be past longberger at that point

Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shittak - 2009/05/20 15:44I've actually been trying to discourage people from riding Lonberger - don't you guys think the water problem is getting worse? Probably not a good idea to send that many people on it. I don't see a problem with the Long Mtn. hike-a-bike, though. Isn't Charcoal Flats closed for logging?

Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shittak - 2009/05/20 15:49i think they are done logging in the charcoal flats area but I think the signs are still up in at least a couple places. I think it would be a bad idea to send all those riders anywhere on the lower trail in shingletown, especially on a weekend day, with all the potential hikers, dogs, kids etc. I can't believe forestry would even ok that.

I am going to propose to mum that we keep Wildcat out.

So the new routing at the end of the Extension is all done? News to me.

Start at Tussey. Up to Bald Knob on the new trail. Down Maquire, up and out of Shingletown past the old fireplace Up Laurel Run road, down little Shingeltown, down Sand Spring. Up Bear Gap road, down N Bear Meadows Road, Tuxedo, Ridge and Extension. John Wert, Up Bear Meadows to Beidleheimer, up all of Gettis, down Bear Gap Road, up to Old Laurel and down old Laurel. Then Three Bridges and then up all or part of Longberger and then maybe up Tuxedo, down Kettle and then back to Tussey for a finish.

Re:Long, Detweiler, The Extension, John Wert, Shittak - 2009/05/20 19:45would hate to see the green mossy stuff get chewed up, but instead of the whole way down bear gap, turn left and go down north bear meadows trail, then up laurel. may need a small wooden bridge thrown in at the bottom of nbm trail.
