Deadfall on Sandhole - 2009/03/15 22:12
There is a dead fall on the upper part of Sandhole, not too far from the parking lot at the end of Shitalka (is that the right spelling?)before you enter the pine trees, and someone used limbs to ramp it on either side. It seems like an okay idea; however, the limbs that were used to ramp is aren't very stable and probably need to be secured if the tree is going to continue to be ramped. Of course I have no trail building experience so I'll defer to those who do. That being said, I'd vote to have the tree cut out as my log crossing skills are tested enough elsewhere in Coopers Gap. However, my son seemed to enjoy describing my fall after I attempted to cross this log today and ended up in a heap. I would guess this tree will need a chainsaw if you decide to take it out.
