hodog trail conditions - 2008/12/22 11:50 Cville wasn't too bad (in the woods). But I road before 1pm and even then the double track and exposed places got like sand - tough.

Anyone have any reports of Tussey? Fireroads look nasty.

Allen Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/22 18:35 Copper's has been great the last two days. Smooth and traction. It's fast as all get out
You could even ride your cross bike on it.

jmblg Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/22 19:57 awesome, just goes to show you can't go by your driveway. i fell into that train of thought the last few days thinking...it's got to be a skating rink..you never know unless you try...Wed, tussey...

hodog Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/23 09:26 Allen, for those of us without 4wd - how is stone creek road and parking at the shale pit?

What happened to the 5-6 inches of snow you got the other weekend? If I go out and break through the crust will it still be rideable?

Thx,

HO

kevinb Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/23 16:37 your best bet would be to head down through reedsville and come up coopers gap road from there. its gonna be a bit icey but alot less road than any other way. and if you have studs then you could actually park at the bottom before you hit the state forest and have a mile or less up coopers gap road

Allen Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/23 20:24 Been parking at the bottom off the road before the pavement ends on Cooper's. If you break throught the crust then the riding is going to be hard. A couple off the area's on Sunday were to soft. Most of the old snow was gone.

Allen Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/26 19:56 Well the party is over. The roads are now a skating rink. The trails were also nice and slippery. Still ride able with some caution. Lets see what the rain and higher temps bring.

jmblg Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/26 21:26 agree;road longberger, upper, tussey, camp and it was a rink in spots, couldn't predict when you'd hit an ice patch, could've used studs. the best section of trail, hands down, was upper longberger; it was fast and not slick...just enough traction.

Allen Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/27 11:33 Hoping this will help.

SteveF Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/27 19:47 Does anyone know what the trail conditions are like in Cooper's Gap? I was planning on doing my typical early Sunday morning ride tomorrow and was wondering if it would be worth it as I don't have studded tires.

SteveF Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/29 20:24 I did end up riding early Sunday morning (6:30am to 8:00 am) on Sand Hole and Long Cut. In most places the trails were ridable except when you broke through the crust; then, it was tough. Cooper's Gap Road was a sheet of ice but we were able to ride on the shoulder w/o problem as it was mostly crusted slow. I wouldn't have wanted to drive Cooper's Gap Road w/o 4wd.

Allen Re:trail conditions - 2008/12/31 15:26 The roads are mainly solid ice and should not be driven. Some gravel showing in some areas. The trails are a little of everything ice, snow and rocks showing. The road is the hardest part and even with my DYI studs it was still slippery. I broke through the snow some. I only rode Chikin and Shitaukla. Let my know if your coming over.
