Corderoy on Lingle Valley - 2008/08/03 13:15
So I rode Lingle Valley this morning and someone had taken the time put a bunch of sticks in the one mudhole/spring seep after the big log stack. Although this may seem like it helps the situation, it does not. Please, if it was someone in the club or you know who did it, explain that it doesn't work as intended. It was doubly bad in this case, as at times there is running water in that hole. By laying a bunch of sticks on top of the mud, you effectively create a check dam, making the water find the next lowest spot, most likely the trail bed itself. So what seems like the solution for about six months, the next season the mud hole has spread out quite a bit. The right solution is to either bridge it or armor it with rock. There is actually a solid rock that could be used as a bridge sill just on the uphill side of the trail at that point. A correct fix should be pretty easy.
