frank Deaf Run/101 reroute open - 2008/05/20 23:25 Option A for a reroute of the 101 is to use a trail called Deaf Run to cross from Crowfield Rd to Boal Gap and then continue out to Colyer. From Colyer you'll work your way around and head up Treaster Kettle to get back to Bear Meadows.
I opened up Deaf Run today if folks want to ride it and check it out. To get on to it from Crowfield, it starts from state ofrest Camp site #5, which is right on the chicane along Crowfield about 2 miles in from 322. It starts out as doubletrack, then hangs a left and becomes a grown in forest rd. To follow it, look for pink ribbon hanging from the trees. It should be pretty fun, but is only about a mile long. according to raymo's math, it will leave the 101 about 4 miles short. Don't worry, we have some schemes to add back the mileage.
On a side note, there is a bunch of inviting terrain and some forgotten trails on that ridge, it would be worth it for folks to check it out and do some exploring. Maybe enough trail to come up with a pretty inviting 6 mile loop, me thinks.
