jmblg Cat Classic and Michaux - 2008/05/05 10:39 Cat Classic had a mass start this year for the sport, made it less congested for those fortunate to get a jump. Started down near the road, switchbacked thru the pine trees, then up the second wall, around the pond. Course was tougher, but more enjoyable, less wall jeep trail climbs (though the major one was still in it), and more single track climbing.

Michaux Maximus, great course, first 6-10 slick and very congested as the 2 groups that left before us must have totaled 60-70 riders. Hit graves ridge, for me, was great for recovery and just enjoying the lines, cleaned it. From the results board we must have had to pass 30-40 riders the first 6-7 miles, a lot of work in addition to off and on the bike in the tight singletrack.

jmblg Re:Cat Classic and Michaux - 2008/05/05 22:19 thanks Frank, he did. We left 6 minutes after the SR's, about 2 minutes after the vets and SS's. His adjusted time would put him about 14th, only a few minutes from the top 10.
At the cat classic on Saturday he was 3rd overall,40 seconds from first, losing 2nd in a sprint. It's really hard to believe just 2 years ago we started by riding the maximus beginner race, he finished 7th out of 7 Jrs. Two weeks later we did the cat classic beginner loop, this time 6th out of 7 Jrs.
We were down at Greenbrier last week, he finished 2nd in the 15-16 sport having some pretty good splits.
