Back to the real topic with aesthetics aside but full of (my) opinions:
retro=classic and less "roadie". Not that there is anything wrong with the road... of course.
modern=we'll have to wait till 2025 till it's retro with perhaps a few years in there somewhere of "I can't believe that was once cool". Then again the fabric may disintegrate by then.

but back to the question at hand, sounds like retro #17 is a more popular choice. Im sure we could have them do any colors we want. We were talking about a blue scheme, does the one on there meet with approval or do we want to go with some other colors?

Let the voices of the people be heard. An email should be sent to everyone in the club about this issue so that those that don't check the forums often will be aware and have the chance to vote. Set a voting deadline for a week or 2 from now so we can get this done before the spring riding season.

On election day, please consider the blue modern design cycling jersey to represent your mountain bike club, NMBA.

I actually think we would come close to that with just a pre-order and the club could pick up the difference for people who want them in the future.

"To place an order with Champion System you only need to order 10 of any same-style main item (jerseys, jackets, vests, shorts, tights, knickers, skinsuits) to get started. After that, you can order any main item one-at-a-time. Confused? Here are some examples of acceptable orders:

10 short sleeve jerseys, 1 long sleeve jersey, 1 vest.
10 bib shorts, 1 skinsuit, 1 short sleeve jersey, 1 winter jacket.
10 wind jackets, 1 wind vest, 1 bib short, 1 bib knicker.
* Accessories (gloves, caps, warmers etc. have separate minimums. See below for details).

That's right, you can order items ONE AT A TIME as long as you are ordering at least 10 of any same-style item. Finally, your time trial teammate can order one long sleeve skinsuit and your teammate that trains all winter can order one pair of custom fleece bib tights."
