hodog AFT Report (south of park) - 2008/01/15 15:54 Over the last 2 months I've been riding the southern section of the AFT between Julian Pike, south of the airport, to route 504. I am still figuring out the best route. Safe to say there is some pretty good riding to be had. As a bonus alot of it is non rocky and beginner friendly. Beth could even take Frank up there without him being too scared of the rocks!

Yoda Re:AFT Report (south of park) - 2008/01/15 16:14 Yeah, it's pretty tame through that area just not easy to link up legal "trail" without a boatload of forest road riding. If only lower Six Mile was ridable. Have you explored the section along Red Mo on bike yet? I've hiked it some years back and from what I remember, which seems to be less by the day, it should be pretty fun overall.

acr140 Re:AFT Report (south of park) - 2008/01/16 09:05 The section along the Red Mo between Six Mile Run and I-80 should be mostly ridable with the exception of one section that climbs up out of Sawdust Hollow. This section could be re-routed following the contour. The section between Dry Hollow and Potter Run is a little fuzzy in my memory as well. I might hike it this weekend and check it out.

hodog Re:AFT Report (south of park) - 2008/01/16 09:16 Because you can't ride the Moosehanna trail, I've been starting rides from the 322 side (Philipsburg) - literally turn off highway onto Strawband Beaver and park. Turkey Trail (fast downhill) is only 200 yards up the road then you can go either way on the AFT. There are alot of little problems that should be fixed like a shortcut to avoid Wolf Rocks. I rode the beginning from 504 toward Munson road last week and it looks like Shingle Mill incarnate. Too rough for my injured shoulder - it will have to wait. So I'll probably explore the Northern stuff next.

MAybe you should contact this guy, it sounds like his speed (and it sounds like he should move to Southern California).
