Death Re:Quehanna Area Group Ride 11/4 - 2007/10/24 21:33 Sorry, can't help you out then. That stuff was/is long gone.

Yoda Re:Quehanna Area Group Ride 11/4 - 2007/10/28 22:21 Rockton it is! After talking it over with Shane Gouldthread it looks like that would be the best ride location. There will be potential for 20+ but also many bailout points for anyone not looking for a long ride.

The ride start time will be 10am, and there should not be any issues with that due to gaining an hour of sleep the night before(Don).

I will post detailed directions to the parking area soon.

hodog Re:Quehanna Area Group Ride 11/4 - 2007/10/29 10:08 Are there elk in Rockton? Is it near Weedville? Are we getting wings afterwards?

Demon of the Fall Re:Quehanna Area Group Ride 11/4 - 2007/10/29 14:53 There may be some elk in Rockton, but not as many as in other areas. I've never heard of any sightings, but I have never asked.

Yes, Rockton is near Weedville. Probably 10-15 miles SE of Col. Weed's "ville". You won't go through Weedville to get there unless you are coming from St. Marys.

No, we won't be getting wings afterward because they are not very good for you. But you may want to stop at my uncle Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield for a really good and huge hamburger. The Patriots (8-0) and the Colts (7-0) play in Indianapolis at 4:15 Sunday. The game will be on at Denny's which might make a great post ride destination.

Allen Re:Quehanna Area Group Ride 11/4 - 2007/10/29 18:59 Denny's has about 18 flavors of wings and more than eight beers on tap. We ride to eat and drink bad things after the ride. They have a great menu. I've been going their for years. What a great place.

Demon of the Fall Re:Quehanna Area Group Ride 11/4 - 2007/10/30 09:46 No dogs at Denny's. It is a restaurant. The Steelers play the Ravens on Monday night. How about Brett Favre's TD pass in OT last night to beat the Broncos!

acr140 Re:Quehanna Area Group Ride 11/4 - 2007/11/02 09:13 Are there elk in Rockton? Is it near Weedville? Are we getting wings afterwards?

An Elk sighting near Rockton would be highly unlikely because Rockton is just south of the great divide, I-80. An elk sighting would still be unlikely, however more probable in the Parker Dam Area, just to the north of I-80.

I also recommend Denny's Beer Barrel as good choice.

frank Re:Quehanna Area Group Ride 11/4 - 2007/11/02 11:05 It looks Like Harry, Adam and I (and possibly Glover) will be making it out. Sounds like there will be quite the group.

Pooh Re:Quehanna Area Group Ride 11/4 - 2007/11/03 19:10 If you want to see elk you have to go down along rt 555 near benezette. I have been riding and hunting down there all week and have seen dozens and dozens of elk along with a hand full of bears. The elk are bugling right now and are also fighting each other from time to time due to the mating season. Any way from the ride it will take you about 30 min to get there and then you could drive back to state through the quehanna highway. which is a cool way to go.

Yoda Re:Quehanna Area Group Ride 11/4 - 2007/11/04 18:01 We had a pretty strong turnout today. 17 of central Pa's finest showed up for the 20 mile onslaught of Rockton Mountain. Only one mechanical throughout the entire ride, not bad.

Special thanks go out to Shane Gouldthread and his uncle Dave Walker for leading us on some great trails. Thanks to everyone else for coming out for something a little different, everyone seemed to have a really good time. Thanks to Pontzer we feasted on burgers and beer after the ride at his uncle's place, Denny's Beer Barrel, in Clearfield. Next time someone will have to do the burger challenge.

We'll most certainly have to arrange some other area rides with the Quehanna Crew, sounds as though there are some really awesome places to ride up that way. We'll also be organizing an early spring Quehanna ride with more focus on the "Wild Area" itself.
