Scott C Re:RB Winter Group Ride - Sunday Oct 7 - 2007/10/03 18:38 I'll be there with some of the Harrisburg gang. Where are we meeting... McCall Dam picnic area?

scarcollector Re:RB Winter Group Ride - Sunday Oct 7 - 2007/10/04 09:34 Just heard there is a running race, the dam 1/2 marathon, at RB Winter Sunday 10AM.
Here's a link to the website & check-out the course map-- http://www.damhalf.com/
Hopefully it won't change the ride plans.

hodog Re:RB Winter Group Ride - Sunday Oct 7 - 2007/10/04 10:54 I've emailed the race organizers to see what route they are using. I imagine it starts at the swimming area and won't use any of the trails we ride, but just to be sure...

scarcollector Re:RB Winter Group Ride - Sunday Oct 7 - 2007/10/04 11:22 What time do you guess we'll be done riding or heading home?
Are we talking an all day death march of smiles or just a few hour wish we had/could have done more kind of ride?
I gotta plan the calories because the dirt under my nails usually doesn't fill me up in case of emergency. Then I eat my finger nails.

Demon of the Fall Re:RB Winter Group Ride - Sunday Oct 7 - 2007/10/04 12:26 22 miles in about 3 to 4 hours. About 50/50 dirt road to trail. Only 1 long road climb up Garden Hollow road about 1/2 way into the ride. Highlights inclube the Cowbell Hollow downhill and the rolling White Deer Creek singletrack and everything else.

I'd rate this ride as medium aerobic difficulty because of the length. The ride ends with about 6 miles along a mostly flat to rolling road following White Deer Creek. It is very scenic and you can really hammer on this road especially if you are on a tight schedule.

Also, halfway through the ride we will arrive back at the McCall Dam Picnic area where we will park. This is nice in case anyone needs to refuel, re-supply, or cut out early. I think it was Scott C. one year who grabbed his extra bike here because the one he was riding had a mechanical problem. So, maybe you will want to bring an extra bike just in case.

You can jump in White Deer Creek at the end of the ride for a refreshing swim/bath before the drive back to town. That is, if there is enough water.

scarcollector Re:RB Winter Group Ride - Sunday Oct 7 - 2007/10/04 14:13 Excellent!

Also, is one spare bike enough? and shouldn't we ride the shortest possible loop over and over again just in case there is a problem. Just a thought.

hodog Re:RB Winter Group Ride - Sunday Oct 7 - 2007/10/04 16:56 Father Pontzer has cooked up a new ride plan to avoid those nasty foot trolls. So we will be meeting at McCall Dam parking area at 10am. Those local to State College can meet at Tussey at 9am to carpool. I believe someone is driving an El Camino? Too bad its not a Ranchero - that's a cool vehicle! Bring a sandwich, lots of water, and post-ride munchies. I'll bring a cooler with recovery beverages.

zero Re:RB Winter Group Ride - Sunday Oct 7 - 2007/10/05 10:26 looks like three of us coming up. i'm guesstimating the time it'll take so wait up if we're running a wee bit late.

"recovery" beverages? hmmmmmm....i hope your idea of recovery beverages and mine are one and the same.

scarcollector Re:RB Winter Group Ride - Sunday Oct 7 - 2007/10/06 08:14 Sorry, the japanese el camino is no longer available for carpooling and don't wait for me at Tussey. Steph, my other half, is running the dam 1/2 and we will be traveling together, earlier than I'd care to. I'll meet everyone at the McCall Dam picnic area, right?

If for some reason, at the end of the ride, someone needs a ride home I'll have room. Steph is catching an earlier ride back to SC with a co-conspiring runner.
Do I feel used? Well, a man has got to do what a man has got to do, I guess.

coming dear...
