Lord willing and the creeks don't rise - 2007/10/01 22:46I am going to take the chainsaw for a ride tomorrow. I am going to try and get to both the tree at the end of the extension and the one on Detweiller. Can anyone tell me if they are both still there? Are there are others in the area I should try to get to? I have the Bob Trailer loaded up with the goods and am going to try and ride and saw. Re:Lord willing and the creeks don't rise - 2007/10/02 13:22Were there two dead falls on the extension? If so, then crap! I went up the gasline and cut out the double log that was about 50 feet in. There was a pretty sketchy bridge built up already. Rather than be accused of sanitizing the trail, I made some modifications, if you get a chance check it out. Also, someone else took out the tree on Detweiler.

Re:Lord willing and the creeks don't rise - 2007/10/02 14:44its not an issue of him using a chainsaw, just an issue of having up to date info or at least paying a little closer attention to the info on the site, or maybe getting out a little more often to ride the trails so he would know where they are, but im not complaining, anybody that will take their day off to do trail work is a good man in my book. so thanks Frank, even if ya did screw up

Re:Lord willing and the creeks don't rise - 2007/10/02 16:07Frank removed the deadfall with the sketchy rock bridge that is really close to the gas line. There is another big deadfall including the tree top that is approx. a half mile in from the gas line. You must walk around this one. What I think Frank removed was sorta rideable, but I won't miss it.
According to Frank's post, the tree a half mile in is still there.

HOAnyone else think we should get Ho's glasses prescription checked? Last time I checked, when two trees have seperate root structures, they count as two trees. Ya Big Dummy! To Kevin's post; yep, the blame is on me. Both Yoda and Kevin had said something to the effect of the tree being between 200 yards and 1/2 mile from the gas line. Since no one had mentioned the one right at the gas line, I thought they were just really bad judges of distance. As for the riding more notion, don't I wish. I get either 1 hour blocks of time, which means Scotia, or 5 hour blocks (not too many) Which usually means I'll go to Cooper's Gap or (gasp!) out on the road bike. I get down the extension probably 4 times a year. I still seem to find time for trailwork...

Although I wouldn't have pegged you for the engineer on that project, since the deck rock wiggled quite a bit and when I checked underneath it, I noticed it was shimmed with rotting sticks. Come on now! Must have been an off day.

i heard complaints about the outside rock moving about 2 weeks after i did the work. i honestly never expected people to be riding the outside line though. it was an afterthought for people's mental security.
