New Otter Gap Tr - 2007/09/25 15:26Anyone have any info on New Otter Gap Trail? This is the piece of Otter Gap between Brush Ridge and Stone Creek Road. On Sunday we looked at it and it is very worn in and looks rideable. I never even noticed it before. And no, I am not confusing this with Penn Roosevelt Trail.

Re:New Otter Gap Tr - 2007/09/26 10:10Rode some of it this morning...Parked at top of Spruce Mtn. took Brush Ridge to New Otter Gap, then took the connector over to Chestnut Springs, Lingle Valley, then back up Indian to the cars. Nice Loop.

Re:New Otter Gap Tr - 2007/09/26 10:44I heard the guys that did this work are from Belleville and they have the camp at the end of Brush Ridge/Indian that is off of Spruce Mtn. road.

Re:New Otter Gap Tr - 2007/09/26 10:51I think one of the guys used to own or be part of that camp but is not anymore. They were talking about clearing/making ridable the section of Penn roosevelt trail from the junction of Brush ridge and otter gap back to stone creek road, is that what you were talking about HO?

Re:New Otter Gap Tr - 2007/09/26 12:09New Otter Gap Tr goes from Brush Ridge to Stone Creek Road. Otter Gap goes from Brush Ridge to Lingle. New Otter Gap Tr is now very well worn in maybe the trail runners are using it. This is not to be confused with Penn Roosevelt which intersects in the same proximity and also looks like it has had traffic. I would like to ride New Otter Gap from Brush Ridge to Stone Creek as it looks pretty fun on the topo map.

Re:New Otter Gap Tr - 2007/09/29 23:09I hiked it last year with snacky to check it out. It is clear, but is in no-way, no-how, ride-able. Neither side would you be able to ride up, and going down would involve some trials skills that we all know you don't have. Which kind of sucks because its actually a really beautiful trail on the stone creek side, lots of big rocks in the pines, similar to sections of Shingletown.

Re:New Otter Gap Tr - 2007/10/01 13:58Damnit, another challenge - now I definitely am riding it! The topo doesn't show it as impossible going up (towards Stone Creek Road).

Re:New Otter Gap Tr - 2007/10/01 14:17is that the supposed trail that leaves from the where Indian and Brush ridge split, Indian going down to conklin/lingle valley and brush ridge going towards otter gap? I didnt think there was even a trail there

Re:New Otter Gap Tr - 2007/10/01 14:25THere is a trail there, which I think is something "Otter Gap", but the one that Ho is talking about is near the intersection of Brush Ridge, Penn roosevelt and Otter Gap. If you are riding towards Indian on Brush Ridge, and you hit the mud puddle near where all these trails converge, look left. There is an old rocky bench cut that heads up the slope, to the right of Penn Roosevelt. Thats it. Ho, I was thinking about trying to use it for the Stoopid 50 last year so I checked it out. You can use that as your gauge as to how rideable it is since I passed over it. Originally, I wanted to come back that way by climbing up the bench on Indian, going down Brush ridge again and then hooking a right. Thought better of it.

Re:New Otter Gap Tr - 2007/10/02 09:08One of the guys at the camp wife rides her horse through those trails. So I'm wondering if she is responsible for the traffic on New Otter.

I don't think that sucks. It sounds like this is a beautiful hiking trail. I would like to hike it soon especially in this excellent autumn weather we are having. Thanks for the description Frank. I'd like to lace up my hiking boots and get out there.
