Re:Three Bridges Retrofitted with Firepit - 2007/06/26 12:41well i took care of it for the most part this morning. somebody did put a fair amount of time into the construction of that thing, alot more time than it would have taken to walk down, across the bridges and use the existing one. anyways, I dismantled it for the most part and rebuilt the entrance, theres two good lines, ridable from both directions. if anybody with more rock smithing ability and time than me wants to play with it somemore, have at, but its good to go.

Re:Three Bridges Retrofitted with Firepit - 2007/06/26 15:11sorry bout that, it was gonna be a little problematic in that going oneway, outta the garden, it was gonna be too tough to get enough speed to clear the fire with a bunny hop and a ramp just would have made it too easy. going the other way, the launch would have been doable but the landing might have been an issue, all them rocks n all, and we certainly wouldnt want anybody jumping a fire to get hurt.

Re:Three Bridges Retrofitted with Firepit - 2007/06/26 15:22Kevin - I am glad you were able to manage getting things put back together. I hope it didn't take you too long! Thanks.
Zero - Keep your chin up. I'm sure there will be plenty more trail destruction to look forward to in the future. I can say that whomever built this fire pit, though having destroyed the trail a bit, left the place clean of trash that I could see. Maybe the next person who builds a fire pit there will leave unbroken beer bottles, used condoms, and other exciting trash to heighten the experience of any crash landings you plan on doing. Never say die!

Re:Three Bridges Retrofitted with Firepit - 2007/06/26 17:00naw you have it all wrong, perpetual flames are always gas fed, we'll just run a pipe over from the gas line, after we tap into it, and use that for a fuel source. but maybe we could move this whole thing up on the ridge or something, would make for a shorter run of pipe anyways.

Re:Three Bridges Retrofitted with Firepit - 2007/06/26 22:01zero, i have my loyal subject to attend my needs. one of them will no doubt be eager to keep the perpetual flame burning. i summon the pontz as he has no desire to ride his bike and his fork is officially dead. it was the ferns.

Re:Three Bridges Retrofitted with Firepit - 2007/06/27 09:40I saw the pit after Kevin had taken care of most of it. I tossed off a little more of the stuff, primarily rocks were burn marks. I think making it look less like there ever was a fire circle is good since it will keep the next person from building a new one.
One thing guys. When you are looking at the rock garden from a perspective other than a rider, you so can not see there is a trail there. The hikers (or more likely car campers) probably thought they were being good citizens by building the fire circle there at the end of a trail. One thing, building fires onto of block fields is dumb, because dry burnable organic matter can easily fill up the holes in such fields, but most people don't know that kind of stuff.

There may be some truth there, but there is a post at the road marking the trail, and there is clearly a trail leading to the rocks and a trail leading from it (to the bridges). So I'd find it hard to believe that someone couldn't infer that they were building a firepit in the middle of a trail. And if they didn't, that's a pretty sad state of affairs.

Re:Three Bridges Retrofitted with Firepit - 2007/06/27 11:19you also want to watch out for using sandstone as your ring material like they did as it tends to have water trapped in it and if it get hot enough cracks or explodes, lucky for them, a few of their rocks just cracked.
