hodog Croyle X - 2007/05/22 10:32 I have cleared and done some rock work on the gully section of Croyle X. I moved the trail from the gully to the rock berm but it does swoop into the gully a few times at the end mainly to present multiple lines before the payoff - a huge skinny at the bottom. The trail after the stream crossing still needs loped and brushwacked or ridden with knee high socks. Rock work in the 'Valley of 50 ft skinnies' has begun but I not supposed to lift anything heavy (like rocks) with my bad finger so the ramps are incomplete. Please check it out the next time you are over that way. At least ride the gully, try out the skinny, and hike-a-bike back up to the road.

Jim G Re:Croyle X - 2007/05/22 18:04 Is this the same bit of trail that Travis cleaned up a few years ago?

hrm Re:Croyle X - 2007/05/22 20:34 hi hodog,
i followed all the rest of bell ridge trail through to croyle road / gettis ridge road extension. the south side is maintained, the north side is pretty bad, but easy to follow all the way -- it's just all worn-out like a narrow streambed.

when i followed that, i also saw that croyle extension branches off to meet either the old croyle trail exit onto beidleheimer, or the new one, too. instead of a steep and narrow trail, it's just an easy road.

i suppose a map would show it better, but it just Y's at that end, just after the stream if you're coming up from the south, just before the stream if you're coming down from the road. there's a huge tree in the way, though, which is why i never noticed it before.

Raymo853 Re:Croyle X - 2007/05/23 06:30 Does anyone know of trails, or remnent trails, beyond what I show? Draw it on a copy of the map and give it to me tonight.

hodog Re:Croyle X - 2007/05/23 08:47 Austin,
You found the north side of Bell's Ridge -great! But where? The south side is used by hunters so it is ok. It gets near the stream and I assumed it turned downstream because there was a really nice campsite. I then hiked straight to the road (beidlehiemer) but couldn't find anything. So is it east or west of the campsite? Thanks for the info about Croyle X, I'll check out the Y the next time I'm down there.

hrm Re:Croyle X - 2007/05/23 12:36 hodog,
just like ray's gorgeous map shows.
if you hike north you hit the stream. there's no indication that the trail continues straight up that 45+degree slope, but it does. i found it just at the top of the crest. it then continues -- as i said -- in bad condition all the way to beidleheimer rd. it's kind of strange to find it in such bad shape, with respect to erosion, but that's the way it is.

hrm Re:Croyle X - 2007/05/23 13:24 i haven't done a thorough exploration since i -- rather my legs -- discovered the joy of long pants. but here is some of what i've found.

in the zipped file: the green "stars" are where i've found trail for sure. i mark it every now and then when i'm on the verge of getting lost. the red "fires" are charcoal flats. the square are nodes.
