dmatlin Building Sustainable Singletrack DVD - 2006/09/27 22:28 I saw this in an IMBA newsletter a few weeks ago. If you want to order a copy, check out the website at: http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/environment/rectrails/trailpub.htm

Make sure you order item #0623-2D01-MTDC. I thought I ordered this DVD along with a bunch of other stuff the first time around, but the DVD didn't show up. Not sure if it was their mistake or mine, but I ordered it again and it came within 3 days.

From IMBA e-newsletter:
"Free Trailbuilding DVD Available
The U.S. Forest Service has created a 40-minute DVD that features video and graphics to teach the basics of trail design and construction. Titled "Building Mountain Bike Trails: Sustainable Singletrack," the DVD is a helpful companion the IMBA trailbuilding book, "Trail Solutions: IMBA’s Guide To Building Sweet Singletrack." The DVD was produced by the Missoula Technology and Development Center in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration’s Recreation Trails Program. Free copies of the DVD can be ordered from the FHWA’s Recreation Trails Program website. Addresses outside the U.S. are limited to one copy."

kevinb Re:Building Sustainable Singletrack DVD - 2006/09/28 00:08 ill tell ya what, the people that built the tahoe rim trail here did an amazing job. obviously its different soil/rock type here than what we have, but the trail layout / pitch of the trail is both great to ride both ways as well as extremely sustainable. we have also seen that in some US Forestry re-routes that obviously use this sort of training in their layout and build execution.

dmatlin Re:Building Sustainable Singletrack DVD - 2006/09/28 00:20 Yeah, same deal in Pisgah. The US forest service contracted a company called Trail Dynamics (www.traildynamics.com) to do a bunch of new trails down there and they have turned out really well.

Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip...

frank Re:Building Sustainable Singletrack DVD - 2006/10/13 14:11 Can someone bring this to the meeting on tuesday? I tried ordering it but ended up with some other DVD. The one I got however had whole PDF on how to build a backpack to carry a chainsaw. All it need was a catchy name like "saw holster".

hodog Re:Building Sustainable Singletrack DVD - 2006/10/13 15:59 I'll try to remember to bring. Plus I'm going to sue those bastages for patent infringement. Those saw-holster coping sons of road weiny spawn owe me! Don't make me angry - I got a chainsaw on my back, bitch!
