Re:peep peep - 2006/11/07 13:13
no chickens but I hear the mountain lion has pretty big claws. (the camp there is named Peep, thus the trail name, not sure why the camp is named that) Your peep assumptions are correct, and the reason we dont hit it if the gate is open is because that means there are people at the camp that we dont want to piss off potentially. as far as upper peep, it parallels Kettle road up and intersects with it about a quater mile from the big over look, maybe .3 or .4 miles from the crest of the mountain and another quarter mile or so to Sassafrass. With regards to the other trail in question, I believe the consensus name of that is Sand hole extended. It goes through a field then starts climbing a bit. there is a T intersection after that, to the left climbs sharply, the original sand hole trail up to beautiful and you would pick Deer tick up at the top of that climb on your right just before you got to beautiful. If you were to stay right or straight at the T intersection that would take you out to the pull off at a gate on coopers gap road. to get to the bottom of dear tick you would head up the gated road and keep an eye out for the trail on your left as you get to a field sort of area on a sweeping right hand turn in the road. From that pull off at the gate, you can also go straight across the pull off on Longcut and follow that to the gravel road, take a left on the road, then deer tick would be on your right in that open area. Confused yet?
