jmblg Telephone trail - 2009/06/17 21:14 12 inch barkless no limb tree down about 2/3s way down.

we're planning on cleaning out the softball rocks in the gully section some day, no one went down, but that section could stand to have a few less moving softball size rocks

Telephone has been in need of major work for years, but its so seldom used its been hard to motivate. The problem with removing the offending rocks is that there is plenty more where that came from. Whats required is some major earth moving. Maybe I'll hit Mumbles up to see if he wants to spring for some machine time, we could make a little Raystown section in Rothrock! (Not really, but since it was once a road, it could be fixed pretty easily with a machine and only look ugly for about 6 months.)

jmblg Re:Telephone trail - 2009/06/17 23:15 that's what Stu said, the problem being there's more to come back in. i've never stopped and looked around. maybe some bumpers to keep rocks from rolling in (be nice as i know nothing about trail maintenance)

frank Re:Telephone trail - 2009/06/18 15:38 The problem is that there is always going to be plenty more rocks to replace what ever you move, and the trail just keeps getting to be a deeper trench.
When it was a road, there drains probably on both sides and the road/trail was crowned. But years of sediment has built up and made the trail itself the place the water runs. This is what causes the erosion. IF you notice on lonberger, the water will run along the sides in places, then it will pool in the trail and causes mud holes. Re grading the trail could fix this, buts really hard to do by hand.
