kevinb Raystown Opening - 2009/04/08 10:03 HO and I went down to the Raystown Mountain Bike Club meeting last night. Plans are coming together nicely for the opening weekend, should be a great time. A couple things you need to do depending on what part of the events you plan to take part in. If you want a free lunch as part of the opening ceremonies you need to RSVP at http://www.thealleghenies.com/ on the bottom left. Allegrippis Trails.
No cost, they are just trying to get a reasonable headcount. I believe it will be pulled pork sandwiches.

If you plan on staying down there and camping, taking part in the dinner sat night, and hanging out in the evening, they are planing some kind of entertainment, bonfire etc on saturday night (one of the Troegs guys has signed up and rumor has it he may bring a little product with him)
you need to sign up at www.bikereg.com just start typing in Raystown in the search box. That part is $25 which goes to cover all the above, not a bad deal at all.

NMBA will also have a tent up during saturday along with other clubs, manufacturers, local businesses. so if anybody is interested in helping man the booth, please just let me know

SteveF Re:Raystown Opening - 2009/04/15 19:38 A friend of mine from the Lancaster area was asking about the Raystown trails. He heard that it was a lot of jeep trails and was wondering about how well they would be maintained, etc. Could any of you who have ridden the trails during the work days give me any info about the trails?

kevinb Re:Raystown Opening - 2009/04/16 08:59 The trails are "machine built" so they are a little wider than standard hand cut single track, but certainly by no means jeep trails. They will seem a little wide right now but within a couple years they will narrow in and be really sweet and still be on very sustainable trailbeds. There are no major climbs but it is anything but flat, lots of shorter ups and downs and the grade reversal "humps" make for alot of fun. The trails north of 7 points road are all in very good ridable shape. the loop to the south of 7 points still needs finishing work and some big deadfalls cleared but is already cut by the machines. As far as continuing maintenance, the Raystown Mountain Bike Assoc has been formed and there were about 15 people at the last meeting. Raystown Outfitters in Huntingdon is solidly behind the project and the club as well.

frank Re:Raystown Opening - 2009/04/24 21:50 For those of you who haven't registered because you don't want to mess with bikereg, I found out I can add you manually. Just get me a check for $25 (made out to RMBA, not me) and I'll add you to the camping registry.

frank Re:Raystown Opening - 2009/05/04 11:48 OK, I have heard from a few folks about manual entry, but the registration closes tomorrow at noon. we aren't going to be too sympathetic to locals who decide on Friday to try and weasel in. So far, there are about 160 registered, with people coming from all over.
It will be a good time, even if the weather doesn't cooperate.
