Raymo853 Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/10/09 07:36 A suggestion:

How about adding a "Rides" button on the main menu. It could go to a page listing the Wednesday ride and maybe the Tuesday Bicycle Shop ride, Wheelwork's Monday novice and Thursday women's ride. Then it could have blurb and link to the forums specifically the rides section.

Death Re:Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/10/09 10:28 That's not a bad idea... but I'd like to keep the number of menu items to a minimum, and there are already quote a few. Maybe an move the "Join" link somewhere else....

SandwichStuff Re:Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/10/09 13:30 I agree. I think that a "rides" link would be good to have. It seems that it would move some of the content out of the "Upcoming Events" section as well.

I think in general - a very quick reevalutation of the navigation can be done - and more hierarchically structured links (i.e. - the archives link should probably be one of the last links - and the "About NMBA" should be one of the first) could help us improve and consolidate the information we want people to access.

Psychologically speaking - (from an instructional design standpoint) - people typically have a difficult time remembering more than about 6 or 7 items - which is a good rule to go by when developing concise site navigation. Right now - we are at 10 links.

I will take a stab at it - and post it here for people to comment on.

Death Re:Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/10/10 19:49 I'll put together a rides page. Seems obvious that we should have one of these, in retrospect. IMO, this page should be for MTB rides only, not the plethora of other organinzed road rides in the area. There are other websites for that.

So what I have right now is:

1) Tues. 5:30pm at Tussey for the Bicycle Shop MTB ride
2) Weds. 6:00pm at Tussey for the NMBA MTB ride
3 )Thurs 5:30pm at Wheelworks for the Women's only MTB ride.

o Can someone confirm or deny the last one or provide any other information on it?
o Are there any other organized rides in the area?

princess Re:Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/10/10 22:23 well,

i think there's a beginner ride sometime too from WW. and then there's the full moon night rides, but they aren't always held. nor are the thursday night rides anymore.

not strictly mountain in most peoples' minds but there's a street/urban ride on saturdays at 5PM from the shop.

eddies used to run rides on thursdays i think, i also think it is still scheduled, perhaps we should call and find out.

SandwichStuff Re:Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/10/11 14:38 so - not that I am 100% positive - but the women's rides seem to be taking place on Monday nights. It is my understanding that the days and times for the women's rides change quite a bit - but I can only say that half sure as I haven't officially ridden with them yet.
*shrug*

Maybe Kathy (sp) from Wheelworks can answer that question.

Death Re:Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/10/14 13:30 I just talked with Eddies and they aren't running a regular organized ride.

I've put together a draft of the "Rides" page here.

Feedback please.

kevinb Re:Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/10/14 15:39 i like it. not too much info to get people in trouble but enough to let them know whats going on and where to get more info

SandwichStuff Re:Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/10/16 20:47 I think it looks good too. Just a super double check - we should probably make sure that MNWW is willing and okay with being the contact for the women's rides. I'm honestly not sure who heads that up. *shrug*

Demon of the Fall Re:Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/12/05 09:33 This is a great concept and I like the Rides page that Rodney put together. But, where is the Rides button on the main page?

Death Re:Main Menu suggestion - rides - 2006/12/05 18:24 I have been negligent in putting it up. I had a bunch of changes planned, of which that was going to be a part, but I haven't had much time to devote to it. Guess I'd better just put it up!
