Bike & Build
Written by Terri Rudy
Thursday, 16 May 2013

There will be riders from Bike & Build stopping in State College on Sunday, June 30th, and NMBA, WAC and SCCC have agreed to organize a meal for the riders at St. Paul's church in State College on Sunday evening. If you'd like to volunteer to make desserts for the riders and/or help serve food, please email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Information about Bike & Build: Bike & Build is a non-profit program that raises funds and awareness for the affordable housing cause across the nation. Hundreds of young adults ages 18-27 get split up into 8 teams of 30 riders and start riding their bicycles from the East Coast to the West Coast. There are 8 different routes taken and each team is carefully selected to make the best group. Each person HAS to raise $4,500 in order to begin the trip. During the fundraising, each rider goes through an intense training process along with an in depth education in the problems our country faces with the need of affordable housing. The riders will travel on bicycles 60 to 120 miles a day while stopping to build homes 1 to 2 times a week through out the summer months.

Rothrock TrailMix - June 8, 2013
Written by Terri Rudy
Sunday, 12 May 2013

Happy Valley Biking is proud to present for the 2nd year, the Rothrock TrailMix, on Saturday, June 8, 2013.  The race will begin at the base of Tussey Mountain with the course running on the beautiful trails in Rothrock State Forest.

The objective of our race is to provide for a shorter race course in the Rothrock area and to give back to our biking community.  There will be two race courses: a 19 mile (short) course and a 32 mile (long) course.

This race is designed for the intermediate to advanced technical skill level rider.  This is not a good race for a novice or beginner.  The trails in Rothrock are naturally rocky and require excellent bike handling skills.

Proceeds will benefit the Nittany Mountain Biking Association, a non-profit organization.  Sign up at https://www.bikereg.com/Net/19048 by May 12th to be guaranteed a TechT and pint glass.  Online registration will be open until June 4th and race day registration will be available.

Help support the local trails!

NMBA 2013 Business/Community Sponsorships
Written by Terri Rudy
Friday, 22 March 2013

Friends of NMBA,

The Nittany Mountain Biking Association has become the primary trail maintenance, trail work, and trail building volunteer base for the multi-use trail system in Rothrock State Forest.  Below you will find NMBA's 2013 Trail Plan, which outlines specific objectives for the coming year and beyond, along with a PowerPoint presentation that gives more detailed information on equipment needs and provides maps showing the location of proposed future trail possibilities. Please take a moment to review these documents to see what NMBA has in store for the future of the shared trail system in Rothrock State Forest.

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit Pennsylvania corporation, NMBA is currently seeking donations to cover equipment costs for the 2013 trail work year. In the past 2 years, NMBA members and volunteers have donated over 6,000 hours to maintain and improve Rothrock's trails. Contributions from the community allow us to purchase and maintain the tools and supplies required to take care of the trails.

Business donations of $250.00 or more prior to March 31, 2013, will secure your logo placement on the back of the 2013 NMBA TShirt. Donations may be made payable to "NMBA" via mail (PO Box 1215, State College, PA, 16804) or via a PayPal transfer. To make a donation via PayPal, login to your PayPal Account, click the tab "Send Money" and in the "To" space, type This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ; be sure to note "donation" in the optional email message space.

If your donation amount is $250.00 or more, please forward your logo to me at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to ensure placement on the back of the TShirt. This year NMBA will be distributing a moisture wicking (tech) tee to our 2013 membership, which numbered almost 200 members last year, and continues to grow each year.

If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Thank you for your continued support of NMBA!

Terri
